Thái Bình, locates in the East of Hanoi capital, is a province of especially important geo-economic-political position, closely linked to the history of the Trần Dynasty (13th-14th centuries) and the entire history of Vietnam nation. In particular, the land of present-day Long Hưng – Hưng Hà district was the place to build a career and a strong rear of the Trần Royal court.
After ascending to the throne (in 1226) and reigning the country, the Trần dynasty paid special attention on Long Hưng region. In addition to assigning the royal estates to the princes, this was also the place to build the tombs of the early kings and royal family of Trần dynasty. In the land of Tam Đường, the Trần Court set up the Long Hưng Temporary Palace allowing the Trần kings to dwell in the visits to worship their ancestors, organize ceremonies and banquets to celebrate the victory after each majestic event.
The discovery of Lỗ Giang Temporary Palace in the area of Thái Temple (Thái Lăng), also known as Trần Temple, where locates at the junction of the Red river and the Trà Lý river, in present-day Hồng Minh commune, Hưng Hà district, Thái Bình province by Institute of Imperial Citadel Studies in 2014 continued to clarify the history and cultural heritage of the Trần Dynasty in this land.
The discovery of the Lỗ Giang Temporary Palace is of great significance in the study of Trần history. Archeological research results affirm that: Thái Temple was the land of the ancient Lỗ Giang Temporary Palace under the reign of King Trần Nhân Tông and Trần Anh Tông and was the Kiến Xương Temporary Palace during the reign of King Trần Hiến Tông as mentioned in the historical texts.
So far, at Lỗ Giang Temporary Palace site, the Institute of Imperial Citadel Studies has conducted three archaeological excavations (respectively in 2014, 2015 and 2016-2017). The archaeological investigations and excavations in these periods have yielded many types of relics and artifacts of the Trần dynasty at the paddy fields of Phủ Lỗ, Lạch Đường Cả, Càn Thiên Mã, Lăng Ngói and the Thái Temple and Lăng Sa Trong area in particular.
In order to evaluate the value of excavation results, archaeological research of the Lỗ Giang Temporary Palace site in the aforementioned periods and to continue the plan for archaeological excavation and research in the next stage, and at the same time, to identify the plan of planning, preserving and promoting the long-term value of the Lỗ Giang Temporary Palace site in the future, the People’s Committee of Thai Binh province cooperates with the Institute of Imperial Citadel Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences to organize an international scientific conference namely “Lỗ Giang Temporary Palace, Hưng Hà district, Thái Bình province in the history of Trần dynasty (13th-14th centuries)”.
